Abstract: This research aims to contribute to the understanding of the relationship between artistic practices with agonistic features, of critical thinking, debate and collective reflection, and the social space of personal position-taking with regard to civic and political participation.
It is organised around three central questions:
- How do social dispositions favour or inhibit participation in this type of practice?
- What are the inherent characteristics of artistic practice that encourage critical thinking?
- What impact do these practices have on mobilising the militant capital of those taking part, beyond the artistic context?
Teatro Universitário do Porto (TUP) presents particular characteristics in terms of its internal workings and artistic creation that make it a favourable setting for this study. It will serve as a base and a point from which to observe the dynamics at play between artistic practice and personal position-taking.
