EUREL (EUrope - RELigion) - Sociological and legal data on religions in Europe and beyond

On going

About

Abstract: Online website that regularly provides accurate and updated sociological and legal information based on scientific research on the social and legal status of religion in Europe from an interdisciplinary viewpoint, published by a group of experts members of a scientific network. The information available on the EUREL website is organised under different headings. The overview offers basic geographical and demographic data, such as area, population or main cities. It also provides a brief presentation of the country’s religious situation. The historical highlights tab contains two chapters: first, a chronology, providing reference points in the country’s history; second, historical research provides important elements about the country’s recent transformations, with a focus on the religious scene. The tax “law and religion” presents legislation concerning religious activities and the organisation of religious groups. The different chapters under this tab offer an overview of the various denominations, their statistical development, provisions concerning its financing, status in the education system, chaplaincies, rights in the workplace, its approach to laws related to bioethics, marriage, the sphere of intimacy, or the ritual slaughter of animals.

Final beneficiaries / target population: EUREL data is intended for the international scientific community, public authorities and political forces, and gathers comparative information concerning the enlarged Europe (EU member states, candidates countries and other European countries).
