DIGITAL4OSH - DIGITAL FOR OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH

On going

About

Major technological developments in recent years have led to a radical change in the traditional way of dealing with Occupational Health and Safety (OSH) risk management. Building Information Modelling (BIM), part of a broader perspective of digitisation in the Architecture, Engineering, Construction and Operations (AECO) sector, has the potential to optimise and minimise the risks and costs of occupational accidents and diseases. Understanding how to improve OSH management using BIM is important as new processes and routines need to be created and existing procedures need to be adapted. Currently, there is no centralised sharing mechanism where projects that have not adopted BIM for OSH can access lessons learned to support implementation. There is also no formal means of observing and monitoring trends and dynamics in the use of BIM for OSH at national, European or global level. Digital4OSH is a research group of academics and industry partners whose aim is to promote the use of KTDs (Key Technological Developments) to improve OSH outcomes. This group proposes the development of an Observatory to fill this gap by creating a technical-scientific tool that can be used to capture and share lessons learned from previous projects, obtain OSH statistical data, and provide information on the progress of national and European implementation of BIM for OSH. This will provide countries around the world with a central repository where they can gain knowledge and monitor the status of implementation of BIM for OSH.

End beneficiaries/target population: Companies (public and private), Academia, Professionals from construction and OSH.

Coordinator: Manuel Tender (ISLA-Gaia).
