3rd PhD Club Working Session | 2025
28 May // 17h // Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Porto, Room 201 (face-to-face session)
Title: "Citizen Science": principles, challenges and possibilities in the field of social sciences
Round table with Maria João Oliveira (IS-UP/FLUP), sociologist and assistant researcher at the Institute of Sociology at the University of Porto
This session aims to analyse and clarify the concept of ‘citizen science’ in the scientific field in general and in the social sciences in particular. Based on a preliminary analysis of the 10 principles of the concept of ‘citizen science’ proposed by the European Citizen Science Association (ECSA, 2015), students are invited to discuss the challenges and possibilities of applying this approach to their doctoral projects in sociology.
We suggest consulting the attached document as a starting point and reflection for this meeting.
Although the session is primarily aimed at doctoral students and researchers, admission is free to all students and those interested in this subject!
Note: The working session may be broadcast via Zoom if there are students enrolled in the PhD programme who are unable to attend in person. Please contact us at isupphdclub@gmail.com so that we can give you the details of how to enter the meeting.
