Isabel Dias

Maria Isabel Correia Dias is a Full Professor at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Porto (Department of Sociology). She is a researcher at the Institute of Sociology of the University of Porto (IS-UP). She obtained her PhD in Sociology from the University of Porto in 2003 with a thesis on domestic and gender violence. She specialises in the sociology of the family and gender, women's work and occupational health, and the sociology of ageing, with an interest in the abuse and vulnerability of older people. She has published books and several journal articles on gender inequality, domestic and gender-based violence, ageing, health and the social determinants of elder abuse. She is involved in several Masters and PhD programmes as a lecturer in modules on family and gender sociology, innovation, safety and health at work, sociology of ageing, domestic and gender-based violence and research methods. She is the coordinator of the MA in Sociology. She is a member of the Academic Committee of the Doctorate in Social Sciences and Ageing, UNISF project, INTERREG V-A Spain-Portugal programme. She coordinates and participates in various national and international research projects, such as the RESET: Redesigning Equality and Scientific Excellence Together, funded by the European Commission H2020 Programme, Science with and for Society (SWAFS) competition (2021-2024). Recently, she was the scientific coordinator of the project "Cleaning in times of pandemic: between precariousness and health risks for cleaning service workers", funded by FCT in the GENDER RESEARCH 4 COVID-19. Between October 2014 and January 2019, she was vice director of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities at the University of Porto. She is currently a member of the General Council of the University of Porto and Chair of the Ethics Committee of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Porto.
