Women who make noise: scenes from Portuguese rock

Casa Comum da Reitoria da UP |

2022-03-08

- 2023-10-08

What do Lena D'Água, Ana Deus, Anabela Duarte, Manuela Azevedo and Xana have in common? They all have a reserved place in the history of national rock music and are part of the group of 16 women whose musical careers will be celebrated in the exhibition and in a series of parallel events that will take place over the next 6 months. Symbolically inaugurated on 8 March - International Women's Day - at the Casa Comum (Rectory) of the University of Porto, the exhibition opens to the public on 9 March and admission is free. It will be open until 08 October 2022.

Organised by Casa Comum and the Institute of Sociology of the University of Porto, this unprecedented exhibition was created with the aim of paying homage to "relevant women in Portuguese rock" from the post-25 April period to the present day. To this end, it aims to tell their stories through discs, cassettes, clothes, props, scribbles of lyrics, staves, drumsticks, musical instruments, among other objects that marked their careers.
