"This book presents and discusses, from a theoretical-methodological point of view, the composition of eight sociological portraits developed as part of a research project in Portugal. They are about the lives of workers in labour situations marked by recurring forms of social unprotection, contractual instability and uncertainty in the face of everyday life and the unpredictability of the future. The portraits reveal that a diversity of subjective positions and a wealth of social dispositions inscribed in biographical journeys are built upon an individual scale. A plurality of interpretations emerge about the meanings and contents of experiences lived in contexts of social and economic crises. However, the plurality reflected in the various testimonies is anchored in a set of social and existential dimensions that are relatively transversal to the condition of the working class."
