On Thursday, October 31, at 5:30 p.m., the Institute of Sociology of the University of Porto will host Tom Slater, geographer and professor of urban studies at Columbia University in New York, USA, in Meeting Room 2 of the Faculty of Letters. On his return to Porto, Tom Slater will take part the day before in the conference “The Future of Housing”, organized by Domus Social, and will be at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities on the 31st to discuss one of his most recent research projects, dedicated to studying the relationship between state intervention and community development in a municipal housing context in Cape Town, South Africa.
This conference is part of the programme of the "Displacements" project, a partnership between the Institute of Sociology of the University of Porto and the Museu da Pessoa, with INSTITUTO e paulomoreira architectures, the Associação de Promoção Social da População do Bairro do Aleixo and the Escola Superior de Educação do Politécnico do Porto, with the support of DG Artes.
