We are pleased to announce the seventh edition of the KISMIF International Conference 'DIY Cultures, Democracy and Creative Participation' (KISMIF 2024), which will take place in Porto, Portugal, between 10 and 13 July 2024.

The KISMIF Conference (2014-) is an international academic/cultural/artistic event based in the city of Porto (Portugal) and focussed on the discussion and sharing of information around underground cultures, DIY practices, urban arts and related themes. KISMIF focuses on cultural practices that are used to confront more massive and standardised forms of cultural production/creation/mediation, activating an anti-hegemonic ethos centred around an aesthetic and politics of the everyday "arts of making".

KISMIF is so far the only conference to analyse the theory and practice of underground scenes and DIY cultures as increasingly significant cultural forms in the global context of precariousness and uncertainty.

The KISMIF Conference has a multidisciplinary and transdisciplinary positioning and is open to contributions from the global community of researchers, artists and activists working in all aspects of underground scenes and DIY cultures, and is based on a plural methodological approach. The aim is to debate not just music, but other artistic fields such as film and video, graffiti and urban art, theatre and the performing arts, literature and poetry, radio, artistic programming and publishing, graphic design, drawing, architecture, or even cartooning and comics.
