At 4pm, in Largo Alberto Pimentel, next to the iconic Mirita café, the musical procession begins, with the Choral de Letras da UP and the repertoire of Fernando Lopes-Graça's Heróicas, following the surrounding streets and squares to the Gato Vadio bookshop.
At 6.30pm, the films ‘Revolução’ (Ana Hatherly, 1975) and ‘Casas para o povo’ (Catarina Alves Costa, 2010) will be screened, followed by a talk with:
- Cândido Venceslau (D.R.A.M.A)
- Lia Gil Antunes (CIEG/Arquitectas da Liberdade)
- Marianna Serrano (Habitação Hoje)
Moderated by Vanessa Rodrigues (IS-UP/ Habit:AÇÃO). Impressions of the debate will be recorded in a painting produced at the time by artist João Alves.
‘Casas sim, assim não!’ appropriates the GAC's verses to take stock of the struggles for the Right to Housing during the revolutionary period (1974/75) and today, at a time when we are once again experiencing a ‘housing crisis’. The proposal continues the (A)Briga project, which began in 2019, taking advantage of the visual archive and the networks established with the city's cultural and associative fabric. The activities take place in four independent bookshops in the epicentre of Porto's tourist scene, which is particularly affected by gentrification and property speculation. The project is funded by DGArtes - Art for Democracy Programme and has the support of the Institute of Sociology of the University of Porto.
