Abstract: Industrial democracy originated in Europe and gained popularity in the post-war period, especially during the 1970s. Its influence declined with the rise of neoliberalism, but began to resurge in the mid-1990s, particularly following the 2008 recession. With the support of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions programme, the EURODEM_WORKSIPG project will analyse labour relations in Europe from 1973 to 2023, focusing on employers and workers in Germany, Italy, Portugal, and Spain, particularly in the rail transport and energy sectors, through eight public and private corporations. The project will connect experienced academics with early-career researchers and establish partnerships with non-academic organisations. Its findings will provide policymakers, business leaders, and labour organisations with recommendations for enhancing workplace democracy.
