Eduardo Vítor Rodrigues (1971) holds a PhD in Sociology since 2006, by the Faculty of Arts, University of Porto (FLUP), with the thesis "Scarce ways: the process of immobilization of the beneficiaries of the RSI – minimum income". He is actually Mayor of Vila Nova de Gaia, in full time. He is also President of the Metropolitan Area of Porto since 2017. He concluded the Open Executive Programme "Risco Geopolítico e Estratégia para Executivos", at Porto Business School, in partnership with the Instituto de Defesa Nacional (National Defense Institute). He is National Defense Auditor since June 2020 (IDN). He is Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology, responsible for the disciplines of Sociology of Development, Demography and Migrations, Processes of Social Exclusion (BA), Sociology of the Environment (MA) and Social Policy (PhD). He also collaborates with the PhD in Gerontology and Geriatrics (ICBAS) and with the MA in Sociology and Health and the MA of African Studies, both in the FLUP. He has been a visiting professor at several foreign universities and a collaborator in several institutions. He is Principal Researcher at the Institute of Sociology of FLUP. He works in the areas of Sociology of Poverty, Political Sociology, Migrations, State, Social Policy and Development. He is involved in national and international projects in the fields of poverty, inequality, public policies and (un)employment. He is the advisor of several academic theses (Masters and PhD). He is the author of several conferences, books, articles and other publications and a member of several scientific associations, cultural and social intervention.
