Launch session Bourdieu's in the city: challenges to urban theory, by Loïc Wacquant

On April 26, 2023, at 6:30 p.m., in the Sala de Reuniões of the Faculty of Letters of the University of Porto, with online transmission, portuguese edition of Bourdieu's in the city: challenges to urban theory, a work by Loïc Wacquant published by Outro Modo will be presented.

Based on three decades of comparative research in the domains of marginality, ethnicity and penalty in the post-industrial metropolis, Loïc Wacquant proposes a new reading of Pierre Bourdieu as an urban theorist, from the exploration of the trialectic between symbolic space, social space and physical space.  

The launch session will feature interventions by Virgílio Borges Pereira (FLUP and IS-UP) and João Queirós (ESE-P. PORTO and IS-UP), who sign the preface to the work, and a dialogue, from the USA, via Zoom, with Loïc Wacquant (University of California – Berkeley and CSE-Paris).
