Project: Summer School Agroecology and Sustainable Food Systems Proposing institution: Polytechnic Institute of Viseu Participating institutions: Open University, Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto, Faculty of Arts of the University of Porto Timeline: 2020 End beneficiaries/target population: Agroecology students Abstract: Higher education plan for the Summer School "Agroecology and sustainable food systems", a 12-week course (48 hours) divided into a weekly summer session (4 hours) and the participation in ongoing research projects within the scope of Agroecology and Sustainable food systems (SFS): 1. Being and doing agroecology (Evolution, concepts, agroecology components) - 6 hours. Building sustainable food systems (technical routes and agroecological practices) - 6 hours. 3. Agriculture in the environment and in health (SFS and their effects on ecosystem and public health systems) - 6 hours. 4. Resilience from sustainable food systems (climate changes, depopulation, circular economy and SFS) - 6 hours. 5. Food, life and health (sustainable diets and their role in health) - 6 hours. 6. Civil society and political dynamics (agriculture and the human right to adequate food and nutrition - HRtADF, gender equality and the role of women in agriculture, HRtADF education, HRtADF public policies) - 6 hours. 7. Communicating and advocating agroecology and sustainable food systems (communication and knowledge, stakeholder involvement, communication plans) - 6 hours. 8. Designing sustainable food system projects (building SFS implementation projects from production to consumption) - 6 hours. 9. R&D training &D (participation in research projects and local development initiatives within the scope of Agroecology and SFS).
