HARMED - Elder abuse: social, economic and health determining factors

Completed

About

Abstract: The “overall aim of the project is to assess the social, economic and health-related determinants of elder abuse in a context of crisis in Portugal. The decision to carry out research in this area stemmed from the realisation that the links between elder abuse and the socio-economic crisis that occurred between 2008 and 2011 at European level, and more specifically in Portugal, have been poorly researched. The research carried out therefore sought to highlight the impact of the socio-economic crisis on the elderly population (over 60) and its relationship with elder abuse. It is relevant in that it can contribute to remedying the lack of studies and empirical research on this relationship in Portuguese society, but also to identifying a set of recommendations for all professionals in general, and for decision-makers in social policies for the elderly population in particular.”
