Abstract: This project starts from the analysis of Jorge Lima Barreto's estate donated to the University of Coimbra and aims to (re)construct the identity of the creator — and his kaleidoscopic scene(s) — through compositions, writings, creative processes, and performative practices. These are explored in artistic laboratories that allow for the study of Jorge Lima Barreto's transdisciplinary compositional processes within a framework of practice as research. The main argument relates to the polyhedral-oblique influence Lima Barreto had (and still has) in the (re)definition of Portuguese sonic-aesthetic experimentalism in the post-April 25th period. This project aims to interpret the material in the archive and characterize Jorge Lima Barreto in the areas of creation, production, mediation, artistic enjoyment, criticism, literary and performative production, and all multidisciplinary intersections. Jorge Lima Barreto's position in society will be explored as a heritage, memory, and central figure of the Portuguese and transglobal experimental music scenes. Based on a mixed, participatory and comparative methodology, the aim is to develop an archive accompanied by artistic laboratories, publicly accessible through editions in a logic of open-science/public-art accessible and enriching for the community.
