Abstract: This project seeks to monitor and assess the impact of the artistic project Memórias do Cárcere, developed by Terceira Pessoa and produced by Teatro Nacional São João, within the Vale do Sousa Prison.
The evaluation aims to examine: i) the contribution of artistic creation to the development of skills; ii) the impact of the project on the incarcerated participants, as well as on the prison itself; and iii) the project’s role as a tool for social transformation, inclusion and the mitigation of discrimination affecting a particularly stigmatized population.
Methodologically, the evaluation is grounded in: i) the systematic monitoring of activities conducted within the prison, through ethnographic fieldwork undertaken during the co-creation process of the performance; and ii) the conduct of semi-structured interviews with representatives of the participating institutions and with incarcerated project participants, carried out at three distinct phases of the project’s development.
