Resumo: This project analyses conceptions of development within solidarity economy initiatives in the interior of Portugal. Understanding development as a polysemic and contested construct, it takes the solidarity economy as its empirical focus, given its potential for experimenting with alternative modes of economic and collective organisation. Within a heterogeneous field whose national recognition came relatively late, the project seeks to understand how these initiatives contest dominant conceptions of development. To this end, it examines the narratives of change they mobilise and how these are translated into prefigurative practices of organisation, governance, economic management, and territorial articulation. Methodologically, the research adopts a strategy of progressive engagement with the field, using a mixed-methods design that combines exploratory mapping with the selection of analytically representative case studies. A comparative analytical framework will be developed to help enhance the visibility of initiatives that remain under-recognised and to contribute to a more plural debate on development and social transformation.
