Cadernos IS-UP | N.º8 | Special Issue: "How much physical and symbolic space do women occupy in cities? Reflections from the TransFemina Project: Intersectional Landscapes”
December 2025
Instituto de Sociologia da Universidade do Porto
The 8th volume of the Cadernos of the Institute of Sociology of the University of Porto has just been published. This issue is a thematic dossier entitled “How much physical and symbolic space do women occupy in cities? Reflections from the TransFemina Project: Intersectional Landscapes”, organised by artists and cultural mediators Maria João Mota (PELE) and Sara Jorge (PELE).
This issue brings together six articles, written in Portuguese, English, and Spanish, by women who share research, mediation, and socio-artistic intervention practices grounded in a feminist perspective and anchored in the urban realities of the three Southern European cities where they work — Porto (Portugal), Modena (Italy), and Barcelona (Spain).
This special issue of our journal is therefore an invitation to reflection and action, based on a transnational approach to social reality, exploring the multiple ways in which women and other marginalized identities experience, occupy, and transform cities.
In line with the scientific values of IS-UP, the Cadernos IS-UP continue to be published in open-access format, with the aim of ensuring that scientific knowledge reaches everyone and contributes to the strengthening of knowledge networks within society.
We would also like to remind readers that proposals for articles and thematic dossiers are accepted on a rolling basis. We wish you enjoyable reading and a very happy New Year 2026, in the company of the Cadernos IS-UP.
